Episode 26 Endometriosis, GERD & A Plant-Based Diet

Yay! Week 26 and if you haven’t noticed yet, I LOVE hearing peoples incredible stories of recovery each and every week! So much so, this week I couldn’t wait until Sunday to share Shaunna Hill’s story about how she overcame debilitating Endometriosis along with GERD with a low fat, whole food, plant based diet!

If you don’t know much about Endometriosis, it is a condition that affects women’s reproductive organs, where cells similar to the lining of the uterus grow, almost like spider webs, outside the uterine walls causing crippling pain, discomfort, bleeding, and often times tiredness, anxiety and depression.

Gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD) is when stomach acid exits the stomach into the esophagus, the tube connecting the mouth and stomach, causing symptoms such as acid reflux, chest pain, difficulty swallowing, regurgitation of food or sour liquid and the sensation of having a lump in your throat.

At 24, Texas based Nurse Shaunna was living with extreme cramps during her period that were so severe she would be bent over on her hands and knees crying in her bedroom.

Shaunna was prescribed pain medication because her symptoms became so severe she was experiencing vomiting and nausea, eventually she was advised the only option would be to place her in pseudo-menopause and have a hysterectomy.

As a woman of only 24 I can only imagine what it must’ve been like to hear this…

During this time Shaunna became vegan for the animals. Not even 2 weeks into consuming a plant-based diet Shaunna began noticing huge benefits to her health including her symptoms of GERD had completely vanished.

4 months later, Shaunna had zero symptoms of both Endometriosis and GERD and 2 years on she has had no further symptoms.

Shaunna has since started a vegan food blog called Lavendar And Honeysuckle which although not a low fat, whole foods, plant-based recipe site, it is a great site for any folk listening who are wanting to transition to vegan for the animals and are not currently fighting or preventing disease.

You can also follow Shaunna on Facebook and Instagram at Lavendar and Honeysuckle.

Shaunna’s Top 3 Tips for Going Vegan Include:

1. Download Apps such as: Happy Cow and Is it Vegan?

2. Friends and Family – Be Calm and Light, educate whenever possible.

3. Don’t Look Back
